The Granstream Saga is an action role-playing game that was developed by Shade, a development studio within Quintet. The game was published by THQ in North America and Sony in Japan. It saw a North American release in 1998.

Gameplay[]

When outside of battle, gameplay consists of top-down exploration in fully polygonal environments. When confronted or ambushed by an enemy, combat begins, causing the camera to shift to a 45 degree angle. Combat gameplay consists of real-time one-on-one battles, and it is similar to a 3D fighting game. Like its predecessors, it is action based as opposed to turn-based. However, those games were in 2D. In combat, the player character has several weapons and abilities at his disposal, such as swords, daggers, and spells. When not in combat, the player spends most of the time exploring. Sometimes the player will obtain new weapons and armor. Conversing with the NPCs is important, as they may give you a hint to a puzzle.

The player controls an orphaned adventurer named Eon. He lives in the fictional continent of Shilf. There are also four floating worlds in Granstream; each of them are held up by the power of an orb. An organization called the Imperial Army, the antagonists, attempts to destroy these worlds. It is Eon's destiny to stop the Imperial Army and save the floating worlds of Granstream.

Music[]

Most of the music in the game was composed by Quintet's sound staff. The music in the anime cutscenes was composed by Kōhei Tanaka.

Trivia[]
