The Hero is a little boy that uses his brain rather than physical strength. He dreams to be independent and become a good inventor like his father, Dr. Akihabara. He is a good kind and shy boy; he creates inventions from the worries of those in need, but also is a naive person, it is easily fooled by anyone. Most of his enemies are referred him to as a "goofy face", in Japanese "foolish face"(マヌケ顔). Despite having a shy personality, always try to solve other people's problems, which leads him tends to get into trouble easily. To defend against the Hackers and their monsters, he use his robots, therefore rarely will launch "Big Bombs" or use "Weather." Sometimes he chooses to escape the fight or avoid it with the inventions "Smoke" and "Vanish." He likes animals and with an invention of his father’s colleague, who learned to create, he talks with them. In general, he appreciate nature, in fact he donated a "Seed" for a little girl to make bloom in Rococo Town.

- Like The Master from ActRaiser and Blazer of Soul Blazer, the Hero is controlled by the player.
- In the Japanese manual the main character is initially called "Hero" (主人公) which is for the player to name him as desired and feel that they are the protagonist, but in the screenshots in this manual, he was named "Enix" (エニックス), like The Master and Blazer.
- There is three different versions of concept art for the Hero. In Japanese art, he appears with a kid wearing a vest, sweater, and pants, while the other show with vest without the sweater and shorts, similar to the sprite of the game, but little more tall. American art seems to have grown up than in the Japanese version. He looks like a rebel young adult.
- The Hero uses his magnifying glass, to find and observe items, but also serves to stop the enemy for about 2 seconds or push them, depending on the case.
- He's mentioned in the Quintet Quiz of Neotokio in Terranigma (Japanese version): "The protagonist of Slapstick is a treasure hunter."( スラップスティックの 主人公は トレジャーハンターだ。).
